The new Civics Test is here! You’ll have to answer twice as many questions.

But is the new Civics Test in your citizenship interview really that much harder to learn?

After months of rumors and fears, the 2025 version of the Civics Test for naturalization has been released by the USCIS. And experts are divided over whether it’s really that much tougher to pass than the old test which had been around since 2008.

You will have to get 12 answers right, not just 6 as in the past, but you will be asked 20 questions, not just 10, so your odds are basically the same.

The new test comes from a longer list of questions, 128 versus the old 100. And many of the new questions have a longer list of possible answers. But all of those answers are still considered correct, you can choose any of them.

The revisions to the test “will make sure that all new citizens are able to understand the U.S. Government and Civics,” said Matthew Tragesser, spokesman for the USCIS.

The U.S. Citizenship Foundation is ready to help you study and pass the new Civics Test and all other parts of your Naturalization Interview. And as always, we help you prepare for your N-400 interview for free.
